La Toppa Plain (Subromula) - Lacedonia (Aquilonia)

next

Some researchers have suggested that via Appia followed the Ufita river from Mirabella Pass (Aeclanum) and, that only after the source, proceeded towards La Toppa Plain (988 m) (Subromula) after climbing a steep slope (350 m).

The itinerary we are following, proposed by Prof. Lorenzo Quilici, is instead the one on the ridge.

From La Toppa Plain (Subromula) to Lacedonia, probable statio Aquilonia, it is possible to identify the via Appia in the straight stretch of road that follows the SS 303 and bypasses all the modern bends.

There are no traces of historical finds in this segment.

This is compensated by the magnificent sceneries on the Irpinia region.
