Formia (Formiae) - Minturno (Minturnae)

This segment of Via Appia is hardly identifiable after the urban expansion of the city of Formia (Formiae), an ancient aurunca (*) city, which transformed it completely.

The area is very rich with ruins of the villas that were used during the Republican (*) and Imperial (*) ages in the summer time (Cicero, Munanzio Planco in Gaeta).

Just past Formia (Formiae) , the via Appia merges again with the SS7 - modern via Appia - and leads to the ancient Minturnae in a long back straight flanked by ruins of sepulchres.

On the left, there is a beautiful and well preserved roman aqueduct with 150 arcades.

The new town of Minturno is positioned upstream.
